About Us

Cedar Weaving Circle Association was created in 2024 to meet the needs of urban indigenous people living in Vancouver and the surrounding communities through the instruction of cedar weaving projects that require an organization or association with 75% or more board members.

We are an unincorporated not-for-profit association which is not a legal entity. We are an organization of two or more persons, who are the members of the association. The membership may change from time to time. The members agree, to co-operate in furthering a common purpose.

How did we become an unincorporated association? As soon as we started doing things together, we decided to became an unincorporated association. As an unincorporated association we don’t need to register with any government office, provincial or federal.

What law governs unincorporated associations? There are no federal or provincial laws that govern unincorporated associations.

Who makes decisions in an unincorporated association? Do we need to have a Board?
Members of an unincorporated association can and have structured the association in any way that they like. Currently the board/members consist of an administrator and elder and/or knowledge holder.

Mission

The Cedar Weaving Circle's mission is to educate and support indigenous people who live off-reserve in and around Vancouver, who desire to connect with culture and community through weaving with cedar bark.

The Cedar Weaving Circle's primary focus is to rebuild lives, heal families, and strengthen communities who have lost their cultural connections due to the Indian Residence School System, the 60s scoop, and the Millennium scoop. We do this through our cedar bark weaving programs that bring in the cultural values associated with weaving with cedar bark, a direct connection to the land and a traditional way of living.
